Rampur: A three-year-old boy was allegedly kidnapped and murdered after his parents failed to pay a Rs 50,000 ransom to their neighbour. The incident took place at Barakhas village under Shahzadnagar police limits on Sunday evening.
The child went out from his house to play with some kids. He was allegedly abducted by his neighbour and killed. The body was then dumped at a brick kiln.
Senior sub inspector, Shahzadnagar, Amit Kumar Singh, said, "The accused had demanded a ransom from the victim's father over the phone and threatened him not to inform the police.
The SOG and surveillance team traced the accused and arrested him. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime."
The body has been sent for postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death, Singh added.
The accused was sent to the CJM's court in Rampur and has been charged under IPC sections 364-A (kidnapping for ransom), 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence). The court sent him to district jail under 14 days of judicial custody.
